Since talk like a pirate day comes this week and since we are a busy school, watch the website announcements for changes as they come. We’ve added some new books for parent resources and are going to use apprentice cooks for Friday’s lunch.

Monday—The Falcons have Science class this afternoon and the Hummingbirds have art this morning. Both older science classes have a science “minute” today—a quickie quiz to cover what we did the last two weeks. This is to remind everyone of the goals of the science unit and to help with working on the next part of the theme.

Tuesday—We have Spanish class today. Since Spanish occurs during our usual playground time, we are going to go earlier in the day—around 8:30 a.m. and will start the school day at 9:30. The Owls have Science this morning, as well. Mr. Smith is the homeroom teacher for the Owls on Tuesdays. The Falcons go to the library on Tuesdays. So, you can see that Tuesday is a busy day!

Wednesday—is talk like a Pirate Day at Kingfisher. Kids can wear simple costumes if they want to (nothing expensive or too elaborate) and we’ll have pirate booty for a treat at some point in the morning.

Thursday—is Art Day for the Falcons from 12:30 to 1:30. Also, science for Owls and Falcons is today. Hummingbirds go to the library today.

Friday—We have hot lunch today (the menu is posted below) and this is $4/plate and is an entirely voluntary thing—sometimes everyone eats lunch and sometimes only 5 or 6 kids eat. The money we make on lunches goes to the teachers for spending on their classrooms. Today the Owls go to the library. Because lunch will be baked potatoes with toppings along with applesauce, I’ll be using some apprentice cooks (one from each classroom) to help me set it all up. This is fun for all of us—and the cooks get to see the “workings” of preparing food.
